With new illusions and renewed staff, so faces Tenerife a challenge already achieved two years ago, and that we didn't
wanted to repeat so soon. Again in the "silver division", the restructuring of the club seems to have affected to almost all its levels and although the time will tell, there´s no doubt that things seem to be on their proper way, with capable professionals controlling the main sport and administration areas, and with President Javier Pérez delegating, finally, sport responsibilities. From the Atlético of Madrid arrived Miguel Ángel Ruiz, a
football manager with prestige and good name in first division, to handle the sport-issues (in Spain, managers have less power than in England, for example. For the coordination and restructuring of the lower categories came Antonio Seseña, also from the Athletic of Madrid. Finally, for the first time Club and fans agreed in the coach: the german Ewald Lienen. Lienen was the second coach of Jupp Heynckes during the Tenerife´s "golden years", mainly 96-97, when we reached UEFA Cup semifinals, against Shalke 04, the final winner. After that, he began working alone, and brought Hansa Rostock into great succes in the Bundesliga, and afterwards promoted Colonia (FC Koln) into Bundesl., although was relegated a year after. Serious, strict, but
dialoging coach, and great worker, he holds fans dreams. Let us hope this image of seriousness and professionality are something more than an illusion, and next year this section talks about the club, but a Primera División club.

Tenerife enjoys a few sport facilities in the island, while waiting to the
long expected "Sport-City", that finally seems to be closer to
reality than to dream¡¡¡ From the club it is said that before the end
of the year, Tenerife and it lower teams wil have, at last, a proper
training place. Take a look to some photos, if you want, in El
Estadio. |
